Travel Essentials for Kids
Anyone out there love to travel? We have been traveling with our 2hungrydaughters since V was 6 months, her first trip was to Turks and Caicos and we haven’t slowed down. My husband and I have enjoyed traveling for leisure our whole life and have this whole traveling with kids thing down to a science. I know first hand that traveling with kids can be stressful and tough. Follow along for some great travel essentials for kids to keep them busy and occupied the whole flight.
First off, everyone gets a backpack. In my opinion, the best backpacks are from pottery barn kids. They have such a wide variety and the backpacks are large and durable. In reality, ANY backpack will do as long as your child doesn’t fall over when they put it on. I usually let each girl pick 3-4 things they want to bring with and then I add in the rest. My 2 year old usually packs a baby, a pop-it and a notepad with crayons. My 4 year old chose 4 Barbie’s, a pop-it, 2 gel pens and a journal. Now, I know that your mom bag is slammed full with other travel essentials. Which I have come to realize, kids are capable of managing and carrying their own carry-ons. Trust me!
LET’S GET TO PACKING
The best part about this, is that you can pack everything that they will need in one bag that they can somewhat manage themselves. The carry-on should be practical and filled with goods to keep them busy from the waiting to board stage to the get me off this plane stage. You want it to be easy to quickly access and to pack up.
First up, I like to make them airplane snacks. Basically a charcuterie board in a box that will satisfy them at any point in time during travel. Lots of choices and plenty of snacks will save the day. Snack ideas include fruit, veggies, granola bars, gold fish, pretzels, crackers, chips, cereal, apple sauce, gogurt, dried fruit, hummus and some sort of sandwich. As well as a water bottle, you can fill it up with filtered water at the airport. We love the kids Yeti water bottles, they don’t leak and are durable.
Now, activity time. Of course we packed their headphones and iPads. The headphones we have are awesome, they adjust nicely and fit both my 2 year old and 4 year old. Next up, I purchased a few fun, new activities from Amazon before our trip. They used these activities on the plane as well as while we were on vacation.

Having kids carry their own carry-on teaches them responsibility, independence and empowerment. This helps lighten the parents load and makes for easier traveling! I hope you found this post about travel essentials to be useful. There are some pretty great ideas on what to pack for your next vacation with your kids. Happy Sailing!
