Homemade Pretzels
Auntie Anne’s pretzels but ones you can make at home? Coming right up. We made these pretzels last fall and they have been a hit ever since. These homemade pretzels are the one appetizer you can serve anytime of the year, anywhere. They can be prepped ahead of time or made prior to serving. Let’s get started.
INGREDIENTS
water
salt
sugar
active dry yeast
flour
vegetable oil
1 egg
course salt
optional dipping sauces – mustard, marinara sauce, cheese sauce
THE BEST FINGER FOOD
First up, for the best homemade pretzels, in a medium sized mixing bowl; mix together your water, salt and sugar. Add in the yeast packet and let sit for 5-10 minutes; when it starts to foam. When that is ready, add your flour to the bowl as well as the oil and mix to form dough. It will be very sticky but I promise you, it will form bread dough real quick. Once the dough has formed, throw some flour on your counter and place the dough on there. Knead it for 5 minutes until the dough is smooth. Now place the dough back into the bowl and cover with plastic wrap for 45 minutes to 1 hour to rest.
Back to that homemade pretzel dough! Preheat your oven to 450 degrees and grease a baking sheet. Take the dough out of the bowl and cut into 8-10 pieces. Roll each piece into a thin rope. Yes, you can pretend you work at a pretzel factory and flip the dough like a jump rope in front of your face. Making a pretzel is difficult, but I will share a pic on what it should look like below. Brush the pretzels with an egg wash and sprinkle with course salt. Bake for 8-12 minutes, until they are golden brown. You can also make pretzel bites and skip the rope making part, just cut them into bite sized pieces.
FOR OUR LAST TRICK, WATCH THE PRETZELS DISAPPEAR.
Serve these homemade pretzels with mustard, marinara or cheese sauce. If you’re like me, you might like mixing marinara with cheese sauce… YUM! Bring these to your next gathering; they will be gone within minutes! P.S. Leftovers? These taste the best when warmed up in the air fryer.
