Perfectly Grilled Steak
Looking to change up your Sunday dinner plans with a sizzling steak that is mouthwatering? We have you covered. This weeks feature Friday with our dad is perfectly grilled steak. On Saturday mornings my husband goes to the market and grabs donuts and steaks to prep for our weekly Sunday night steak. It is one of our favorite family traditions. Follow along as we tell you how to make a tender, delicious, perfectly grilled steak.
INGREDIENTS
Choice of meat – filet mignon
Avocado oil
All Purpose Rub
Steak seasoning
SUNDAY NIGHT STEAK IS WHERE IT’S AT.
Start your engines aka get the grill going to 400 degrees. What type of meat are we using? We chose 6-8oz filet mignon. The best steak for grilling is a tender cut that contains marbling. Side note, we climatize our steak about an hour before grilling. What does climatize mean? Bringing the steak to room temperature for even cooking results. Place your fillets on a plate outside of the fridge.
The secret to big flavor is to season your steak 30 minutes prior to grilling. Begin by patting each steak dry with a paper towel, drizzle a small amount of avocado oil on top and rub it all over. Next, add on an all purpose rub; salt, pepper and garlic. Don’t be afraid to liberally season these steaks top and bottom – that’s what gives it flavor. After the AP rub, add your favorite steak seasoning. We have a homemade seasoning that is similar to Montreal Steak Seasoning without the salt content.
Some people think that perfectly grilled steak is done over an indirect flame and well I’ve got to be honest, that ain’t true here. My husband makes the best steak, ask any of our friends. Also, our kids LOVE IT.
TIME TO GRILL SOME STEAK, LIKE A PRO
Back to the charcoal grill. Once your grill hits 400 degrees and the coals are white, it’s go time baby! Using a pig hook, place your meat on the grill. Close the cover and only open to flip the steaks. We like ours to be medium rare so we will cook the steak, 4 minutes a side for about 12-16 minutes, keeping an eye out for flare ups. Once the steak reaches an internal temp of 125 degrees, remove from the grill and take them inside to rest for 10 minutes. You want to take the meat off the heat when it is 5-10 degrees below your target temperature. When you let it rest, it will come up to the temperature you want and the juice will redistribute, making every bite delicious.
